I was walking in Hampstead Heath yesterday when I saw a heron in the middle of one of the algae-covered ponds, standing completely still and immobile. It was so still for so long that at one point my initial excitement turned to disappointment as I wondered if it was a new sculpture installation that I didn’t know about! But then it flew off so my initial perception was correct – it was indeed a live heron.
Later on I went to the Victoria Miro Gallery to catch Yayoi Kusama’s Bronze Pumpkin exhibition. Unfortunately I’d got the dates wrong and only her outdoor installations were still on show.
Here are a a couple of examples of the pumpkins:
And then an installation of multiple silver balls, floating co-incidentally on algae-covered water, which linked it for me with my experience of the bird/sculpture in the morning on the Heath
