Smoking in Japan

Unlike in Britain and the USA, smoking is still permitted in bars, hotels and restaurants in Japan. However, things are beginning to change. Here are a couple of images I took in November of designated smoking areas in Shinjuku, Tokyo

I liked this bilingual pavement sign seen in the Chuo ward of Tokyo, and found it interesting that smoking is not allowed whilst walking. I appreciate this idea as I dislike breathing in cigarette fumes when I’m outdoors!

Finally here’s a a bit of Japanese retro smoking glamour, seen in a covered market. I don’t know who the smoker is – if anyone does do let me know!
